What is an Electrical Installation Condition Report – EICR ?

It is much like an MOT for the electrical system in your home.

Each socket, switch, light and fuse board  is inspected and tested using a set schedule of tests and compared to current Regulations. A full Report is generated and issued to the client upon completion which will establish the condition of the Electrical Installation..

As of 1 July 2020, landlords must ensure every electrical installation in their residential premises is inspected and tested at intervals of no greater than 5 years and these checks need to be completed ‘by a qualified and competent person’.

This legislation has been put in place in order to keep rental properties throughout Rotherham, Sheffield and South Yorkshire safe for tenants.

Who needs to have an EICR done?

If you’re buying a house, it’s well worth having an EICR done before hand to check if you are inheriting a house with unsafe electrics!

When a property is sold or rented out to a tennant, the gas in the building is checked by a Gas Safe Engineer . It’s now the same for the electrical installation whereby it is checked by a registered Electrical Contractor, that’s us – G R Electrical Services!

For years the electrical installation in dwellings have been overlooked. However it is now mandatory for landlords to have and EICR to confirm the safety of the electrical installation in the building.

What else do I need to know?

Authorities that are responsible for enforcing the new regulations can impose a financial penalty of up to £30,000 if they find a landlord is in breach. If all this is ignored, the local authority can take legal action against the landlord. You can also find more details about these regulations here and here.

Got a good quote off Gary to reconnect power to a new concrete slab garage and to install new plug sockets and lighting. On the day, Gary and Reece turned up. Reece reconnected the power, installed new fuse box, new plug sockets and new light fitting then cleaned up afterwards. Great job and highly recommended if you need electrical work doing.

Gary and Reece did a first class job for us. We had quite a bit of work done including a new Fuseboard, landlord’s certificate and installation of new radiators. The work was carried out to an exceptionally high standard and we were delighted with the end result. Price was great. It helped that Gary and Reece are really nice guys and a pleasure to do business with. They were always on time, flexible and did exactly what they said they would. Gary helped us out when our ground floor sockets mysteriously started tripping. Managed to come assess the same day and after thorough testing identified the faulty wiring. He found a suitable solution to get us up and running again that afternoon. Would highly recommend.

Gary and his team undertook a full rewire of my mum's 1930's house; no mean feat with the obstacles they faced, but they did an excellent job; arrived on time, worked long hours and were extremely neat and tidy. They also kept me updated remotely with videos etc of progress. Highly recommended!

Having used Gary and his team on multiple occasions I can 100% recommend them for all electrical work. Having completed a full board swap and check on the complete house as well as redoing the lighting in a bedroom they have excelled each time. They always go above and beyond to ensure the job is done correctly and to the best standard possible even if it isn't the easiest way. Gary fitted 2 new electrical sockets for my kitchen refit and also 2 new light fittings. In addition, Gary provided me with a safety certification for his work.
